Nova Scotia won’t ban NDA’s for sexual assault cases

The province will not ban the use of non-disclosure agreements in sexual assault cases.

Justice Minister Brad Johns said they did a jurisdictional scan, and they don’t plan on bringing legislation forward.

When asked why, Johns said it’s a complex issue.

“Even since the beginning of the scan, no other jurisdictions have come on side with this, and we’re not coming on side at this time,” said Johns.

Johns says, he does not support NDA’s being used to silence sexual assault victims, but adds his government will not ban them.

PEI is the only province that has moved forward with the ban.
