Queens To Retain Ownership of South Shore Regional Airport

After much debate and consultation with the public the Region of the Municipality of Queens has decided to retain ownership of South Shore Regional Airport.

In recent months Queen’s council has been deliberating over a potential sale for a below-market price to the Nova Scotia Drag Race Association for $50,000, however that idea was defeated at the latest council meeting with a vote on the sale being defeated 5-3.

In recent years the airport has been primarily been used by the Drag Association to host races and for recreational flying primarily by members of the South Shore Flying Club.

Under the proposed arrangement with the NSDRA, both parties would have been able to maintain using the facility as they had done previously.

However, concerns were raised around the community as to why the Region was selling it for a below-market price when there were allegedly other parties interested in buying it at a fair market price.

Moving forward, it seems as though the airport’s operations will continue much as they have in recent years, with both races and flights taking place while under municipal ownership.
