Cash stolen from two volunteer-run museums: N.S. RCMP

RCMP are investigating after cash was from stolen from two volunteer-run museums.

Police have released photos of the two suspects and asked for the public’s assistance to identify them.

On July 19, Cumberland district RCMP got a call about a cash box that was stolen from the Heritage Models Museum in River Hebert. Surveillance video shows two people trying to take the box, according to a news release.

On July 24, Lunenberg district RCMP received a call about two people going into the Fort Point Museum in LaHave Nova Scotia.

Based on the descriptions of the two people and on video surveillance, police think the two people stole from both museums.

Police describe one suspect as a man with short, reddish-brown hair and a bear. They describe the second suspect as a woman with long brown hair. They both appear to be in their 20s, police said, and they may have driven to one of the museums in a dark-coloured pickup truck with a cargo rack on the back.

If staff or volunteers sees similar behaviour at other museums, they should contact their nearest RCMP detachment.

Police say groups who collect donations in donation bins should empty them regularly. If possible, people should also consider donating through online methods instead of using cash.

This truck is dark-coloured and has a cargo rack on the back. Police believe it was involved in two museums thefts in July 2024. (RCMP)

If anyone has information related to the two thefts, police ask them to contact either the Cumberland district RCMP at 902-667-3859 or the Lunenberg District RCMP at 902-527-5555.
