A statement from the Nova Scotia RCMP called the circumstances surrounding the death of Tyre Nichols as horrific and disturbing.
Assistant Commissioner and Commanding Officer Dennis Daley condemned the murder of Nichols at the hands of law enforcement and stated that it is heartbreaking to know that he was killed by people that swore to serve and protect. He stood firm in his belief that it is the solemn duty of officers to keep people safe and every officer is accountable for their actions.
He added that the actions of the officers responsible for Nichol’s death will affect public trust of policing, but the RCMP will continue to stand by and support racialized communities.
Tyre Nichols was an African American man killed by police officers during a traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee. The Nova Scotia RCMP wish to send their condolences to Nichols friends and family.
