RCMP officer charged with assaulting a youth

An RCMP officer has been charged with assaulting a youth.

The Serious Incident Response Team says they have reasonable and probable grounds to believe the male officer committed a criminal offence on March 8.

SiRT says their investigation started after a referral from the West Hants RCMP and Department of Community Services in May.

The Corporal will appear in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Windsor on October 29.

The response team say they’ll have no further comment as the case is now before the courts.

Superintendent Jason Popik, Southwest Nova District Policing Officer says the member is posted to the West Hants detachment.

The officer is currently on administrative duties, and his status will be reviewed pending a review and the court process.
