Remains Of Missing Sipekne’katik Fisherman Found

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre have found the remains of the 54 year old Sipekne’katik fisherman who went missing yesterday morning.

In a tweet, the JRCC says at 2 p.m. this afternoon, SAR personnel were able to locate the missing captain of the FV Miss Janet.

Personal effects floating on the water were found by searchers, this led them to the captain.

His remains will be brought ashore, transferred to the RCMP and returned to his family.

The vessel was transmitting from Shelburne to Saulnierville early yesterday morning.

Three other crewmembers slept overnight on the vessel, while the captain stayed in the wheelhouse. When the crew members woke up, they were unable to find him.

The JRCC are offering their condolences to his family, friends and the community.
