UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning ends for Lunenburg County

A severe thunderstorm warning that was in effect for Lunenburg County has ended, according to Environment Canada.

“Severe thunderstorms have weakened or moved out of the region,” the weather agency said in an update at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters first issued the warning at 4:30 p.m., saying they were tracking a storm that could produce strong wind gusts, pea- to dime-sized hail and heavy rain.

“The nearly stationary thunderstorm has developed near Maders Cove and is affecting Bayswater Beach, Mahone Bay and areas near Lunenburg,” says the forecaster.

It was possible for 40 millimetres of rain to fall in under one hour.

The weather agency had warned residents to be prepared for flash flooding and reduced visibility.
