Sheet Harbour man arrested after fleeing police twice

A Sheet Harbour man has been charged after he fled RCMP officers and resisted arrest.

On Thursday, Halifax RCMP officers attended a residence in Sheet Harbour around 3:15 p.m. in order to arrest a 23-year-old man for breaching a release order.

According to police, the man exited the residence through a window and fled on foot.

Officers pursued him until he entered the East River. He later came out of the river and was arrested.

The man was taken to hospital in Musquodoboit Harbour for treatment, but after being released to police custody, he fled into a wooded area.

RCMP, with assistance of the Halifax Regional Police Canine Unit, the HRD Street Crime Enforcement Unit, the HRD Community Action Response Team, and a remotely piloted aircraft system, located the man and took him into custody.

He appeared in Dartmouth provincial court on Friday and is facing two counts of failure to comply with a release order and one count each of resisting arrest and escape from lawful custody.

He was held in remand and will remain in custody pending future court appearances.
