Shelburne Arena forced to close due to equipment malfunction

The Shelburne Arena has been forced to close after running into problems with its chiller, which is an essential part of maintaining quality ice.

In a post on the Shelburne Arena Facebook page, it was indicated that the facility will remain closed indefinitely until a replacement can be purchased and installed.

The Board which manages the Shelburne Arena says they are now aggressively pursuing grants and funding options, however, they indicated that those things take time to be approved and it could take some time before funding is secured.

Shelburne CAO Warren MacLeod said that their council has already discussed the idea of supporting the Shelburne Arena in funding a new chiller and they were open to it but are awaiting more information on the price as well as if other local partners also step up.

Shelburne Arena management indicated a new chiller would cost between $150,000-$200,000. As they are aware funding from government sources and other organizations may take some time they are also appealing to donors who may be interested in supporting the project.

They are hopeful to open in the new year but indicated that is contingent on securing the necessary funding first.

In the meantime, anyone looking for ice time will have to travel to Barrington which is around 30 minutes away which is where the nearest facility is located.
