Shelburne, Bridgewater hosting ‘Walk for Alzheimers’ events

A big focus on those living with Alzheimers and dementia.

‘Walk for Alzheimers’ events are happening across the province this weekend to raise money for the Nova Scotia society.

Organizer of the Shelburne event Sandra Hubbard says it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year.

“Half of our budget at the society comes from our fundraising events so that we can provide services to those living with this disease and their care partners,” said Hubbard.

It starts at 1 p.m. Sunday with registration at the Guild Hall.

There’s also a walk happening in Bridgewater on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the LCLC.

Hubbard says everyone knows someone affected by the disease.

“It affects either the person diagnosed with it, and their caregivers. As of 2022, there were 16,000 with Alzheimers in Nova Scotia.”
