Shelburne County axe-throwers win in Germany

Three axe-throwers from Shelburne County have returned from Germany with awards.

Felicia Townsend placed first in the women’s division at the competition, while John Buchanan won the men’s side.

Suzy Atwood placed second behind Townsend.

She says the group took first overall in the team event.

“We were up against all-male teams in the final. To be on the podium with two females on the team against some of the best in the world, it was awesome,” said Atwood.

Atwood says they’re hopeful to host another big event, like the World Double-Bit Axe-Throwing Championship that was held in Barrington last year.

“We’ve hosted the Canadian championships in Liverpool the 2 years prior to COVID. We’re hoping to bring that back next year, likely in Barrington.”
