Shelburne Planning Municipal Modernization Sessions

The Municipality of Shelburne wants to talk about municipal modernization.

Warden Penny Smith says they’ve already talked about what that could look like with the towns of Shelburne and Lockeport.

Everything from amalgamation to increased shared services have been discussion points.

Smith says they’re inviting all four municipal units in Shelburne County to take part in council education sessions on the subject.

“These speakers will be those who’ve had experiences in the different processes, and those who can speak to the potential pros and cons of each,” says Smith.

She says they’re only committing to gathering more information at this time.

“We see this as the first step. We realize if we move ahead after the education sessions, it will require cooperation, education and commitment.”

Smith says the other municipal units and province will need to be on board as well.

She says these conversations have been happening for years.

Sessions are being planned for the spring.
