Shelburne Warden thanks firefighters, community after forest fire

Those who were evacuated from Little Harbour because of the forest fire are back in their homes.

Shelburne Warden Penny Smith says it’s been a harrowing week for the community of about 40.

She says her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation goes out to everyone who responded.

“I know the local department was overwhelmed by all the support from all the other departments, the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables, and the community. A big thanks for all the food and supplies and water that was delivered,” says Smith.

Smith adds that firefighters are heroes, and ran into danger to protect the community.

She’s relieved that no lives were lost or property was damaged.
