Shelburne Whirligig festival cancelled for 2024 and beyond

A unique festival in the Town of Shelburne will no longer take place.

The Whirligig and Weathervane festival has been cancelled for 2024 and beyond.

Co-chair of the organizing committee Therese Cruz says there are many different factors in the decision.

“It’s been challenging finding people to volunteer and make the whirligigs. There are a lot of folks that have stepped down from the position, and committed people are few and far between,” said Cruz.

She adds the past few years have been tricky, especially since the pandemic.

It would have been the 24th anniversary of the festival.

Cruz says a new vision and more government funding is needed if it’s going to return one day.

“For it to really start up again, there needs to be a solid and committed group of folks that have a new vision of what it would look like in the future, and maybe some paid positions.”

Cruz thanks those who did give their time and donations to the event over the years.
