Singh talks to university students about housing

The NDP is focused on affordable housing.

Leader Jagmeet Singh met with Dalhousie University students in Halifax about their struggles to find a place to live.

He says there’s simply nothing available.

“Multiple people to a single room just to be able to afford rent. Students should be worried about school, their careers, and not trying to find a place to live,” Singh told reporters in Halifax.

Singh says housing will be a big priority for his party during the next session of parliament.

He says students told him some really tough stories.

“Students living in tents while they couldn’t find housing because the vacancy rate (in Halifax) is low. We’ve heard of landlords reno-victing tenants because they can’t afford it.”

He wants to push the feds to build more housing on government land.
