‘Soft-opening’ of Barrington rec centre planned for December

Delays continue for Barrington’s new recreation centre.

Originally slated to open in the spring, a soft-opening is now planned for December.

The $6.9 million centre is an add-on to the arena on Sherose Island.

Barrington warden Shaun Hatfield says construction delays are common.

“Whether it’s a residential home or something privately even, you’re waiting for tradespeople to be able to converge, or supplies to arrive sometimes,” said Hatfield.

Construction started in April, 2024 on the facility.

Hatfield says it’s going to create spaces for events and physical activity.

“It’s got a walking and running track, a program kitchen, 4,000 square feet of multi-purpose rooms for activities and meetings.”

A full opening will happen in early 2026.
