Stranded man and child rescued safe after canoe capsized

Halifax Search and Rescue is commending a man and child who were well prepared with supplies and safety gear after they ran into trouble while canoeing.

The organization says they were called by Halifax Fire to help rescue the pair around noon on Monday after their canoe got damaged and capsized in the Williamswood area.

The Wilderness Rescue Team found them about 2km away from the nearest roadway.

The pair were able to hike out about two hours later with the help of search and rescue team members.

“We commend these individuals for being well prepared, once they encountered trouble, for calling 911 and staying put,” says search and rescue.
