Students In Lunenburg County Are Making Local Business Their Business

A group of high school students are giving local businesses a boost.

Members of Junior Achievement in Lunenburg County have come up with a loyalty card called Discounty.

It promotes local businesses while offering discounts to consumers.

The group is made up of 15 students from Bridgewater High School and Park View Education Centre.

Adam Strickland is VP of marketing for Discounty and he says they needed to create something to help small business compete with the big box stores.

“So we’re like, okay, how about we do a local savings card or a discount card because we know that they give back to their community a lot and we want to make Bridgewater more viable for small businesses.”

Strickland says it’s important to support local business.

“We’re trying to get as many consumers to go to these small businesses as we can because big-box stores are taking away a lot of the economy around here.”

Strickland says their group is competing against other regions across the province to show they have the best idea.
