The legendary late night talk show host Johnny Carson once said, “The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.”
Growing up, I was never a fan of the Christmas tradition, dark or light.
But a few years ago my mother said she wanted a fruitcake for Christmas. I went to a local bakery and learned a lot about fruitcake. The ingredients are expensive, they are labour intensive especially if it’s one where they keep soaking it in liquor and they are not cheap by any means.
After I bought one for mom my curiousity got the better of me and I decided to pick up a light fruitcake for myself.
It was good! And I finished it off over the holidays!
This year I’m considering going over to the “dark side”.
