Before I begin, I have to admit something. I watch TV commercials. I have no idea why, but I do. I’m more likely to pay attention to commercials than I am to most shows.
But because of that, I have noticed something. Fabric softener seems to be trying to find a new life as a wrinkle remover.
It’s no big secret that fabric softener is having a bit of a tough time these days. A lot of people don’t see the point of fabric softener, so apparently, sales have been lagging a bit. So it’s only natural that they try to find a new way to market their product. A way that would make people look at fabric softener as a convenience. Something that helps them solve a problem.
There seems to be a few commercials running lately that point out the fact that clothing can get wrinkles. There is an age old solution to that problem. The iron. But that takes time and you might even burn yourself, so who needs that. Just toss a sheet in the dryer and you don’t need to take chances with your fingers.
Now they don’t come right out and mention the part about no ironing. So I get the impression that maybe the steam iron is something that people were just not using that much anymore. But we don’t want wrinkles, so we need something. So fabric softener to the rescue.
At least, that’s as near as I can figure.
I checked a couple things and it seams sales of steamers are up, but irons are on the way out. At least for the past few years. I suppose that could be why the fabric softener people decided it might be a good hole to fill.
Now this isn’t a scientific survey or anything. It’s just an observation. But I’m not going to invest heavily in ironing boards at the moment.
