What do you call the end of a loaf of bread? I’m told that here in the East we tend to call it the heel, while out West it’s more likely to be the Crust. When I was a kid we called it the crust. I think I was a teenager before I heard someone refer to it as “the heel”.
It could be worse. I’ve heard of families that call it the butt or the bum. Who’d eat that? Rumour has it that the people who call it the bum got that from the Italians who called it the culo.
Then there are folks who simply call it the end and the rare few who say it’s the nub.
