This is pretty wild.
Keji’s Backyard Ultra wrapped up this past weekend at Kejimkujik National Park, and if you’re like me, you might not have even known what a “backyard ultra” was until now.
Let me tell you… it’s intense.
What is a backyard ultra?
It’s one of the simplest race formats you’ll ever hear about but one of the craziest and hardest!
Here’s how it works:
- Runners complete a 6.7 km loop
- They have one hour to finish it
- Every hour, on the hour, they go again
- Finish early? You rest until the next loop
- Don’t finish in time? You’re out
- Show up late for the next start? You’re out
And this keeps going… hour after hour… day into night… sometimes into the next day… until only one runner is left! I would last maybe 2 hours!
This year it when on for 39 hours!
Nick Richards was the winner this year for the second year in a row. He was able to finish 39 yards or laps! That is wild! Congratulations!
