The Most Hated Day?

This coming Sunday has to be one of the most hated days of the year. The day when we move to Daylight Savings Time.

I’ll admit to being one of the weird ones. I look forward to it. I’m not big on dark evenings. I like more sunlight at the end of my day. So I’m a big fan of Daylight Savings Time.

I don’t get up super early, so the fact it might be a bit darker in the mornings for a while doesn’t bother me. I’d rather have the extra daylight at the end of the day.

There are sleep experts who will try to tell us that our natural body cycle is more attuned to Standard Time. I tend not to listen to those people. Neither does my body.

But I am also one of those people not bothered by the time change. At least, not usually. It may throw me off a little some years, but not enough to make much of a difference in my life.

My wife, on the other hand, hates the time change. She claims it messes with her sleep patterns and leaves her tired and grumpy for a week or more. The fact that it doesn’t bother me much and I’m sitting around cheering on the change probably doesn’t help.

I will admit, it would be nice to not have to go through this. It takes me a while to figure out how to change some of the clocks that surround me, since it only happens twice a year. But if we had to pick one, I’d go for Daylight Savings Time all year round. But it doesn’t seem that our governments have much desire to do anything about it.

Last year, Ontario passed a bill to stick with Daylight Savings Time all year. But only if several other jurisdictions do the same thing. And so far, they haven’t shown much interest.

So at this point we’re stuck with the time change. I know many people hate it, but I really want that extra daylight in the evening.

Really, I need that extra daylight. The snow is starting to melt and the dog has had a busy winter. I need the time to gather the gifts left for me on the back lawn.

And maybe a few other actual fun activities as well.
