Forgive me if this dish is a family tradition in your circle but I have never heard of it. It’s basically mashed sweet potatoes with a marshmallow topping that is baked.
And for some, it’s a very big Thanksgiving tradition.
I asked as many people as I could if they had ever heard of such a weird concoction and hit paydirt!
A friend of mine from the Debert area remembers going to Thanksgiving dinner years ago, it was a pot luck, so everyone brought a dish.
Virtually everyone turned up their nose at the baked mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping.
However, to be polite, everyone took one spoonful of the dish.
And then the entire crowd cleaned the casserole dish of all of it!
It turns out the dish is over 100 years old and was created by the Angelus Marshmallow company who wanted to get people to try marshmallows as a food.
