It’s one of those days again. Starting out wet, getting colder, a bit of snow thrown in, just to remind us where we live. It’s just doesn’t seem like Nova Scotia weather unless we have at least a couple seasons every day.
But there is a debate that rages on about windshield wipers… to lift or not to lift, that is the question.
If you leave your wipers down, they could freeze to the windshield. It could damage the wiper motor if you turn them on and they can’t move. The blades could tear and flop around wildly unable to perform their duties. You have to work around them to clear the snow from the windshield.
On the other side of the debate, some say raising them weakens the springs and could prevent them from working properly in the future. (This is disputed, but facts are meaningless in debates these days.) It’s easier to clean the snow. But people can just walk by and snap them off. The site of raised wipers is a temptation to vandalism.
It’s hard to tell what’s best. Usually, it depends on whether or not I remember to do anything with the wipers. Sticking them up makes sense, but only if you remember to do it.
