There’s A Cold Snap This Weekend! Here’s How To Prepare!

The tempature is going down to as low as -17 this weekend and possibly colder in some areas of the province! Here’s a few things to keep in mind and prepare for!

Protect Your Home

  • Prevent frozen pipes: Let taps drip slightly, open cabinet doors to allow warm air to reach plumbing, and know where your main shut‑off valve is.
  • Seal drafts: Close gaps around windows and doors to keep warm air inside.
  • Check your heating system: Make sure your furnace or heat source is working properly and that filters and vents are clear.
  • Have backup supplies: Flashlights, blankets, batteries

Prepare Your Vehicle

  • Check tire pressure—it drops quickly in cold air.
  • Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid fuel-line freeze‑ups.
  • Stock an emergency kit: Include a blanket, booster cables, phone charger, small shovel, snacks, and extra gloves.
