Ottawa gearing up for arrival of trucker convoy against vaccine mandates

Several thousand people are getting ready to descend on Ottawa in protest of vaccine mandates and COVID-19 restrictions.

A convoy of truckers is set to converge on Parliament Hill this weekend.

It’s called the “Freedom Convoy” and has been organized by Canada Unity, a group that opposes pandemic-related measures.

Organizers are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to drop the vaccine mandate requiring truckers crossing the Canada-U.S. border to be vaccinated in order to skip quarantine requirements.

They’re arriving from different routes originating from Atlantic Canada, B-C, and places in-between. They’re set to meet up in Ottawa on Saturday.

Ottawa Police say they welcome a peaceful demonstration, but add there will be consequences for any violence as public safety is paramount.

The road in front of Parliament Hill will have two lanes reserved for the convoy and two for emergency vehicles.

Meantime, the top official who oversees security for the House of Commons is warning MPs of reports some demonstrators are seeking out their home addresses.

It’s recommended if that happens they lock their doors and head somewhere safe.

The convoy made its way through Ontario on Thursday.

Hundreds of supporters gathered along roadways and overpasses along the way.

Police warned of traffic delays throughout the region.
