Time To Get Rid Of Awards Shows

The Oscar nominations came out yesterday. Other than the snub to Lady Gaga for House Of Gucci, I really didn’t pay attention.

There was a time when Academy Awards parties were a big thing – people would get dressed up and wine and dine while the Oscars were shown on a big screen.

Or there were lots of home parties centred around the awards show.

Same with the Grammy awards for music.

I think the declining interest in awards shows shows two things – one – all kinds of duplicate awards shows came out and diluted interest.

The other is that the movies, songs and tv shows that get nominated for awards don’t have mass appeal.

I saw just one of the best picture nominees – Don’t Look Up, and that was only because it was on Netflix.

And I will probably only watch one other nominee this year – Dune.

Do you still watch awards shows? And is the Academy Awards something that you could care less about?
