Too Many Choices

I like to have a choice most times, but there are times there are just too many choices. Too many choices often leads to confusion and can end up with me not making a choice at all.

The other day, I was doing some grocery shopping and there on my list was peanut butter. Seems simple. But no! It used to be just smooth and crunchy. Then they also added in the all natural stuff. Then different flavours adding in things that used to be options like jam and chocolate and honey. Now they have dark roast or extra roasted.

I have a suspicion that dark roast may have been accidental. Someone left a load of peanuts in the roaster too long and just decided to use them anyway and decided they weren’t too bad. The peanuts then went from “burnt” to “extra roasted” or “dark roast”. Now it’s a whole new flavour.

Anyway, I used to go for the all natural, just peanut type. I don’t mind the taste and it is probably better for me, but it tends to settle out and leave a layer of oil that needs to be mixed in. That led to the discovery that I am quite capable of spreading said peanut oil everywhere. My dog tends to enjoy my adventures in mixing peanut butter. Some others in the family do not. So now I tend to go for the premixed peanut butter.

But with all the many choices of different types and formulations of peanut butter available, I found myself paralyzed by indecision, standing in the grocery store staring… trying to make up my mind.

After spending time trying to figure it all out, I ended up with a jar of Nutella. Some times, choice is a bad thing.
