Town of Lunenburg implements COVID-19 tax relief fund

The town of Lunenburg is providing some much needed relief to those feeling the financial affects of COVID-19 through a new tax initiative.

Council has approved the COVID-19 Property Tax Financing Program to help residents and businesses that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This program means taxpayers can pay their 2020/21 property taxes over a 30-month period.

Council also passed a motion to develop policy for tax relief measures for groups hardest hit by COVID-19.

Lunenburg Mayor Rachel Bailey says it is something they along with other levels of government lobbied hard for.

“We recognized that our citizens, businesses and residents, many are suffering as a result of the pandemic, and paying their property taxes may be an issue this year unlike any other,” she said.

The program is for residential and commercial properties and owners must meet eligibility criteria. For more information on the program and to learn about the eligibility criteria visit the Town of Lunenburg website for more information here or contact the town Finance Director Lisa Dagley.

The deadline to apply is Friday, July 31.
