Tri County Regional Centre For Education Victim of Cyber Attack

Cyber attackers forced the shut down of the Tri County Regional Centre For Education’s website.

Executive director Chris Boulter says the malware attack occurred over the weekend.

“The first thing we want to say is that this will not delay the school on Thursday September 5. Our normal operations will continue. Our regular website is not currently available we’ll be making a temporary site available at www.tcrce.ca.”

He says that site should be up and running by noon today.

“We’ll also continue to communicate via our social media accounts during this time and we can be found on Facebook and Twitter. Our transportation Department is able to provide any needed bus route information by contacting them by phone which is housed on our temporary website.”

Boulter says it doesn’t appear that any student information has been compromised.

“Right now we have no evidence that ant privacy breach occurred. The way that this type of Ransomeware typically operates is that it locks the files and then requests a ransome to open them back up. There’s been no evidence, to this point, that any information has been extracted or taken from the organization.”

He says the TCRCE is working with the province for support and the RCMP.
