Tri-County Women’s Centre Hosting Forum On Sexualized Human Trafficking

Yarmouth will play host to a unique public forum next month about a very disturbing subject.

The Tri-County Women’s Centre has organized the event on Sexualized Human Trafficking and Exploitation.

Experts, locally and from as far away as Sweden, will talk about the issue and how to collaborate an end to human trafficking.

Bernadette MacDonald, executive director of the Tri-County Women’s Centre says there have been women from Yarmouth who have died after being victimized.

She says it’s a silencing crime.

“We want the community to understand the vulnerability of people and how they get drawn into these crimes, but also for the victims and their supporters and and loved ones ro know that they don’t need to be alone.”

The forum will take place June 14 and 15 at the Rodd Grand Hotel.

On Tuesday June 13, the day before the forum starts, a travelling rug hooking project called ‘Out of the Shadows’ will be presented.

MacDonald says it will be a symbol of resistance to human traffickers.

Everyone will have a chance to work a few loops into the rug or cut wool for it.
