Trial for teens accused of murdering Halifax teenager pushed to 2025

The trial of four teenagers accused of murdering another youth has been pushed to next year.

The trial was originally set to start Sept. 23.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy and girl face second-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing Ahmad Al Marrach in a shopping mall parking lot.

He later died in hospital. Al Marrach was 16.

According to the CBC, the lawyer for one of the accused asked for more time to review the large volume of evidence, which keeps growing.

Lawyer Christa Thompson said they don’t expect to have all the evidence from the crown until November.

The lawyers for the other accused did not object to pushing the trial back, the article said.

The identities of the teens are banned from publication under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Yesterday, Halifax police revealed they arrested two adults in relation to the case for allegedly lying to police to help at least one of the accused avoid arrest.

The trial is now set to start in February.

One of the 16-year-old boys accused in the case filed a request to separate his trial from the other three, which will be heard sometime in September.

The 14-year-old girl was released on bail in June. But the CBC report said the girl had her release revoked.
