Turkey dinners on the menu at Nova Scotia charity

A Nova Scotia charity plans to dish out as many as 1,200 turkey dinners Friday afternoon.

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is hosting its annual Thanksgiving meal at six locations around the province from noon to 2 p.m.

The following locations are hosting the meal:

  • Lower Sackville:222 Sackville Drive (Back lot of Rock Church)
  • Bridgewater: 136 Pleasant Street
  • Truro: 130 King Street
  • Amherst: 6 Maltby Court
  • Sydney Mines: 848 Main Street
  • New Waterford:471 Mahon Street

The Halifax dinner at 5568 Cunard Street will be Monday from noon to 3 p.m.

Souls Harbour CEO Michelle Porter said the number of meals served has increased by 300 per cent since the organization’s first in 2011.

“What started as a small act of kindness has grown into a lifeline for thousands,” Porter said. “Every plate we serve represents someone who might otherwise go hungry.”

Last year, the charity served up more than 470 meals across the province.
