Two Ongoing Forest Fires in Barrington

There are currently two ongoing forest fires in the Municipality of Barrington.

According to Barrington Fire Services Coordinator Dwyane Hunt, both fires are near Exit 30 of Highway 103 but both are a significant distance away from the road.

Hunt says both fires are near Barrington Lake and one is significantly larger than the other but he couldn’t provide exact sizes at the time.

At around 3:30 p.m. Hunt said the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources already had one of their helicopters on scene and he believed another was on route.

Currently, no traffic disruptions are being caused by the fire and Hunt says he does not believe there are any homes at risk though he said it is possible there are camps near the two fires that he is not aware of.

As of right now, firefighters do not know what caused either of the fires.
