Unsure Of A Ban

There may not have been a lot of official fireworks on New Years Eve, but there were plenty of people setting them off. Which seemed to set other people off.

I’ve seen a couple of petitions online for trying to ban home fireworks.

I’ll be honest. I’m not a fan. But I’m not sure I want to stop others from having them.

My dog does not like fireworks. But on nights like New Years and July 1 you know they’re going to happen, so I keep her close. Random fireworks for no particular reason can be a bit annoying, but at least the dog tries to run and hide in the house rather than heading for the hills, so I can live with them, too.

I also tend to look at home fireworks along the lines as just taking a big pile of money and lighting it on fire, but it’s not my money, so have at it.

But it suddenly seemed to upset some people enough that there are those trying to ban home fireworks.

For a long time, such things were banned. As a kid, I can remember firecrackers being one of the top contraband items to try to get your hands on. If you could find someone who could smuggle in a few packs your status would go way up.

But now you can go pretty much anywhere and buy fireworks to set off at any time.

What I don’t like is people who do not take into account how dry conditions may be and light these things off during fire bans, but that has been getting better over the past couple years. Still, you do have to be a bit careful with the things.

So while my dog and I may not be big fans, I’m not sure I want to sign a petition quite yet. Lately it seems the world has been one big dumpster fire. I don’t think a few fireworks will hurt.
