Nova Scotia Power is out with an update on their progress restoring power following Hurricane Fiona.
They say of the 415,000 customers who lost power during the storm, more than 230,000 have had it restored.
Storm Lead Matt Drover discussed their approach to getting everyone’s power back.
“Our focus right now is getting the biggest outages back on as quickly as possible, so those outage events where the most customers are off, all of our crews are dedicated on that. Once those are restored they move into the smaller outages then the individual customers from there.”
He says they are starting to get a better look at the hardest hit areas using drones and helicopters.
Over 1,000 power line technicians, forestry technicians and damage assessors are currently in the field.
Storm Lead Matt Drover says it’s the biggest mobilization in the company’s history.
“We’ve brought in hundreds of additional crews all the way from Ontario, Quebec, all of Atlantic Canada, the New England states as well,” says Drover “They’re on the ground right now and we have more people coming in every day to help with that restoration.”
NS Powers says the most significant damage was in the eastern part of the province and 60% of customers in Cape Breton are still without power.
