Liverpool, Nova Scotia – An investigation into the vandalism of the wigwam at Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy on Old Port Mouton Rd. in Liverpool has been successfully resolved, according to an update provided by the Queens District Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The incident, initially treated as a hate-motivated act, occurred between March 24 and 27, 2023, on school property.
On June 13, 2023, the Queens District RCMP were informed that three children, all under the age of 12, had come forward and taken responsibility for the vandalism. The RCMP officers were relieved to have the case resolved and expressed their gratitude to the public for their assistance during the investigation.
The removal of bark from the wigwam structure had caused significant damage and raised concerns about potential racial motives behind the act. However, as it turns out, the incident was not driven by hate but rather the result of the actions of young children.
Following the revelation, the matter is now being addressed by the school administration in consultation with the parents of the involved children. It remains unclear what specific actions will be taken in response to the incident, but the school is expected to handle the situation in an appropriate manner, considering the age of the children involved.
Immediately following the wigwams vandalism the school began planning to rebuild the structure which is still taking place.
