Today is the day. At least from the provincial point of view. If you haven’t done it yet, get out and vote.
You’ve probably heard it many times. I know it was drilled into me. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain about the results. Since I don’t plan to keep quiet over the next four or so years, I made sure to vote. Just so I can complain. Or not. However, the mood strikes me.
Over the years I have voted for a number of different parties and people, depending on who seemed to be making sense to me at the time. I don’t look at others who I may not support as being the enemy or anything like that. I think we all want to see a better life for ourselves and our families and friends. While we may not all agree on the best way to get there, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who puts their name up for election.
So while there must be winners and losers, a big thank you to all those who let their names stand.
Now it’s up to us to figure out what makes the most sense to us and mark those ballots. That’s how the system works.
I really think we could make election periods a lot shorter these days, but that’s another story. Let’s be honest, we have come a fair ways from the days when a politician had to climb on his horse and ride through his riding giving speeches to anyone who would listen. By the time an election is called, we pretty much know what they are all standing for. We really don’t need five weeks to make up our minds, so that could change.
But we still need to do our part, which is to place our X where we decide it should be.
So get out and vote. Then we can all sit around complaining next year this time.
