It would seem the polls were wrong. No one was expecting a majority PC government yesterday. Maybe the PCs, but most of the polls were calling for more of the same. It does have me wondering if I have been leading people astray.
You see, I like surveys. Weird, I know, but I have had a “thing” for statistics and that sort of thing for a long while. It has long annoyed me that I don’t really get to do too many surveys. Usually, one of the first questions is, “Do you work for the media?” And as soon as I say yes, I’m done. They don’t want to talk to me. So I’m usually left with the automated phone surveys.
What I like is to see how they phrase questions. Quite often, you can figure out who the survey is for and what they are trying to accomplish by the way questions are phrased and the order of possible answers provided. It’s fun to try to figure these things out, at least for me. But the thing is, I do not answer truthfully.
I think I got three, possibly four, calls for the provincial election. I don’t believe I ever actually admitted who I was planning to vote for or what issues I was really concerned with. Mostly, I just randomly pressed buttons on my phone.
So for those sitting around this morning wondering how the polls got it so wrong… that was probably me. And people like me. I’m sure I’m not the only one whom likes lying to pollsters. But there may a few too many of us having fun at their expense.
So my apologies for leading people astray. But I have no plans to stop.
