Water Upgrades To Impact Traffic In Bridgewater

Drivers in Bridgewater may have to alter their commute in the coming months.

Beginning at the end of the month, crews will begin major work on the water infrastructure at the intersection of Victoria Road and King Street.

The Public Service Commission will spend almost a million dollars upgrading undersized infrastructure at Veteran’s Memorial Bridge to allow better flow of drinking water and fire flow protection.

Public Service Commission Chair Andrew Tanner says it made sense to make use of the bridge.

“We’ve got to get water underneath or across that river somehow so the easiest way, rather than dig tunnels underneath the river is to attach to bridge infrastructure that’s already there.”

Tanner says crews will be hanging a pipe off the bridge.

“Once it comes underneath the bridge it needs to connect up on both ends of the bridge. So that’s why they’re going to be digging up both ends for that connection point. That’s why the actual surface of the bridge won’t be useable during that time.”

The disruptions to traffic using the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge will last up to three months.

The PSC is asking drivers to plan ahead and be patient while the work is underway.
