We Need A Plan

This could be one of the toughest parts of getting life back to as close to normal as possible… sending children back to school.

I’m concerned, and I don’t even have school aged children anymore. But I do have grandchildren. And older family members. Getting caught in between is not seeming like a whole lot of fun.

Getting children back in school will be a good thing. They need the social interaction almost as much as the education. It has to happen, but how does it happen safely.

I certainly has not escaped my attention that school aged children seem to attract communicable diseases. Not so long ago, when my children were in school, catching a cold was pretty much a weekly thing. And it wasn’t just one of them. It was everyone in the house. If it was going around at school, it would be going around at home. You just suffer for a little while and get ready for the next round.

But this is different. We’re dealing with a potentially more deadly virus. And for many of us, we’re also dealing with aging family members, as well as family members who are in school.

I really do not want to be separated from either one. I still need to help out older family members, and I still want to spend time with my grandchildren and pretend I can still help them with their homework. (Which confuses me to no end, but that’s a whole other story.)

I know the schools are still trying to figure all this out themselves. I know it’s not easy. But it sure would be nice to have an idea of what their plan is, so we can make a plan of our own.
