3 staff injured after ‘serious incident’ at QEII emergency department in Halifax

Three employees were injured after a ‘serious incident’ at the QEII’s emergency department.

Halifax Regional Police were called around 1 p.m. for a weapons complaint.

Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the threat was contained and one person was taken into custody.

“I can’t provide details of the ongoing investigation, but I want everyone involved to know I’m thinking of them at this difficult time,” Thompson told reporters in Halifax.

The minister could not provide details on the severity of the injuries, or the type of weapon used.

Thompson said staff were in place to support those who witnessed the upsetting incident.

The department was only serving those with a life-threatening emergency until around 6 p.m., when normal operations resumed.
