Weather Is Confusing

The Weather Network has released their Winter Forecast. So you can now put that together with the Old Farmer’s Almanac and several other weather outlets, plus measure the width of the stripes on caterpillars, how the leaves piled as they fell, the height of wasps nests and all the other factors and come to the conclusion… there will be winter this year.

It seems a bit confusing. There is a thin strip along the east coast where things seem to be about normal, temperature wise, with above normal precipitation and and the colder weather will likely hang on for a while in the spring. Which sounds fairly similar to the last couple years.

But since it seems fairly difficult to predict what the weather will be in two days, why should we have confidence in what it will be in two months? Predicting weather is a bit like rolling dice.

I’ll admit. It’s fun to look at some of these forecasts and wonder if they’ll be right. But it’s pretty hard to plan your winter vacation around them.

About all we really know for sure is winter is coming. Some day, it will leave. Good luck figuring out either.
