Forecasters at The Weather Network are calling for a pretty average winter across the Maritimes.
Meteorologist Melinda Singh said temperatures should be near-normal, especially to start the season.
“But as we head towards the mid and later months, we will be looking at visits from the Polar Vortex, meaning a lot more temperature swings,” said Singh.
Singh said an active storm track will take many storms out to sea rather than directly into Atlantic Canada.
However, a few moisture-laden systems are expected to bring near-normal or slightly above-normal precipitation totals.
“We’re looking at above-normal precipitation for areas across the Avalon and Nova Scotia, and near-normal for the majority of New Brunswick, as well as P.E.I.,” said Singh.
The main storm track is expected to be south of the region, but forecasters said a few winter storms are expected to take a more northerly track through or north of the Bay of Fundy.
