I’m Terrible At Pet Names!

My daughter still hasn’t forgiven me for naming her Shaughnnessey (which she has since changed to under 10 letters so it will fit in those blocky forms)

Perhaps that’s why our pets’ names are fairly boring. Our oldest member of the family is a tiny little barn kitten that was brought to the front door by a neighbour and I have no idea why we named her Winnie. When she’s bad (which happens frequently) we call her Winifred. My son calls her Spawn of Satan.

Our lovable black lab is Misty and we had no say in her name since she came to us as a rescue, and she had enough problems to deal with, so we thought changing her name was a really bad idea.

And our brother and sister cats were found in our backyard. The first one I found was the boy, who I thought a was a dead one week old kitten. I picked him up and thought I saw his eyes twitch so brought him in the house and warmed him up (there’d been a frost the night before) and once i got a couple of drops of milk into him he opened up those eyes and let me know he was very much alive! The next few days were touch and go with him, but he’s now a large, loving healthy cat. So since he came back from the dead, we called him Lazarus.

It took a little longer to catch his sister. She wasn’t in as bad shape as her brother so was able to hide from me in the tall grass, but I stood out there not making a sound for a good fifteen minutes and finally heard a scratchy little meow. Because her brother was named Laz, she got Mary. Kind of boring name for a cat, I know.

Let’s hear your pet names!
