Nova Scotia was one of five provinces that adopted September 30th as Truth and Reconciliation as a way for people to reflect on our nation’s history with Indigenous populations and as such many businesses will close their doors for the day.
Below is a list of businesses that will be closed or have altered hours for the day. If you wish to add your business to the list you can contact our newsroom at (902) 543-1222.
Government
Bridgewater, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and The Municipality of the District of Queens will all be closing their offices for the day.
Nova Scotia government offices will be closed, including Acess Nova Scotia.
Federal government offices will be closed.
All public schools in Nova Scotia will be closed.
Shopping
Businesses are free to choose for themselves whether or not to stay open, you can expect most major retailers to be open for the day including all major grocery stores.
All NSLC locations will be closed.
Banks will be closed.
The South Shore Centre will be closing at 5 p.m.
Most restaurants will remain open but some may be operating on reduced hours.
Services
Normal garbage collection is set to take place throughout Lunenburg and Queens counties.
Provincially operated Day Cares will be closed.
All branches of South Shore Public Libraries will be closed.
Recreation
Queens Place Emera Centre will be closed.
The LCLC will be open for normal service hours.
Golf courses will be open.
