Over the years we spend in school it’s funny how some teachers stick out in our memories.
Some because they were nice to us, some because they inspired a passion for the subject matter.
When I went to school every year we had to take history. I despised that class. History seemed so irrelevant to me.
But I’d dutifully memorize the dates and events and pass the exams.
Then in Grade 9 we had a history teacher who was more of a storyteller. He would make the historical figures come alive and become human.
He had us analyze their decisions and whether they made the world a better place.
That teacher instilled a love of history in me that has never left. To this day my favourite books and movies are about historical figures.
