People in Wileville hoping to see new land-use bylaws put in place will be disappointed.
A plebiscite tacked on to the ballot during last weeks municipal election didn’t get the two-thirds approval needed to move forward.
Around 240 people cast ballots in the plebiscite with 60.33% voting in favor.
Planning director Jeff Merrill says it would take special circumstances for council to overrule the vote.
“If you don’t meet the sixty-six and two-thirds threshold council shall not proceed with the establishment of planning,” he says, “except, what they call a ‘Part Two’ which is council can establish planning for the betterment of a community.”
He says that decision will be up the new council once they’re sworn in on November 8th.
