I though we had seen the worst of it a couple weeks ago. It seemed to be getting better. Then, last week, the world turned yellow again.
There have been stories about how climate change has been making the pollen season worse. There are those who were saying increasing temperatures have added up to twenty days to the pollen producing season. In the past, I might have been doubtful about this. But not this year.
The pollen just seems to keep coming.
Hopefully, we have turned the corner and it will start to get less. Everything seems to have been coated with this lovely yellow dust. And just when you think it’s done, here comes more.
For those with allergies, there seems to be no end. And although we might be past the worst of the Covid days, a sneeze and a few sniffles will have people looking at you funny. Like maybe you should be put on an island by yourself.
But all this pollen makes me wonder. Are plants about to take over the world?
There are already quite a few of them, but if just a small fraction of the pollen results in more new plants, we could be looking at problems.
Sure, they don’t move much, but if they start filling every available space with more of their kind, they could try to force us out. It might take forty of fifty years, but that’s a fairly short period of time for a tree. And given the amount of pollen that was in the air last week, we could be looking at a lot of new plants being produced.
While we are sneezing and hacking our way through spring, the plants could take over the world. And with our vision clouded by our watery eyes from all the pollen, they could actually sneak up on us.
There could be more to this. It could be part of a plot from the plants as they take over the world. And with so many of us sneezing and gasping from the pollen, it might not be that hard.
Hopefully we won’t see this every year.
